I’ve walked through tumors. Sat bedside through death. Last week I had a cancerous lesion removed from my own scalp.
And in the middle of it all – joy. Real, grounded joy.
Not because life was easy. Because God was faithful when it wasn’t.
For over three decades I’ve built and led companies. Started my first at 23, built partnerships that led to acquisitions by Microsoft, Amazon, IBM. Written 22 books after facing 100% rejection.
I know how to persevere. How to perform. How to push through.
But a few months ago I had to ask the question I’d been avoiding:
**Am I building AND LIVING the life I’m working so hard for? Or am I just building it for someday?**
That question changed everything.
I stepped away from what was profitable but not purposeful. I chose presence over productivity. People over performance. Because perseverance without presence is just burnout with better branding.The number most leaders get wrong isn’t the dollars. It’s the years.
**Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”**
That harvest isn’t just revenue or recognition. It’s a faith that holds. A joy that stays. A life you actually get to live.
